Video of the koncovka flute, Slovakian world music instrument

Click here to view the embedded video.

Needless to say, most flutes are played by covering and uncovering holes on the surface of the instrument. But the koncovka is not like most flutes. Rather, the sound is produced by opening and closing the bottom hole by hand, and by the speed of the air blown into the flute.

Traditionally played by Slovakian shepherds, check out this improvisation of the koncovka overtone flute, then Click Here to check out another world flute, this time from Japan.
