The signature sound of India undoubtedly comes from the music of the sitar and tabla. With such confined limits placed on popular music, it is remarkable that the sitar has become a somewhat well known instrument. No doubt it should be, but so too should many other world string instruments, such as the shamisen, pipa and oud, to name a few.

The sitar is at its finest when accompanied by the tabla, a couple of Indian hand drums, as seen here. After watching the video, Click Here to view another sitar video.

Common music instrument in India for centuries, the sitar was brought to the attention of the western world when George Harrison of the Beatles took lessons from Pandit Ravi Shankar and played the sitar on “Norwegian Wood”.

In this video, Prasanna delivers an amazing performance on his sitar… Enjoy!
